a new look
Tomorrow night I have a client event on Ellis Island. I’ve been so preoccupied dealing with all the details (i.e. how to get 500 people on a ferry boat, learning about the Cake Boss so I can promote his cake to the media, explaining to my client why Montel Williams is not a big enough celebrity to equal the Sunday Styles, etc.,etc.) that I completely forgot I needed a formal dress since it is a full blown gala.
No worries, I thought on Sunday night, I’ll pull out my favorite black formal gown and all will be fine. WRONG. That dress is an 18. When I put it on, it looked ridiculous. So, with a nudge (and some cash) from my sweet mama, I went off to find a new dress for my new body.
In the end, it came down to two finalists. A black one that looks almost identical to my old black one and like every gown I’ve ever worn my whole life. Or a stunning red one, that is like something I’ve never been able to wear before. Something that truly shows off how far I’ve come. I bought them both because I couldn’t decide in that moment.
The black one makes me look older, more serious, more sophisticated, which is what you want at a work event. But in the end, the fact that I can put on a SIZE TEN red halter formal gown and feel stunning is worth it. I’ll have a million years to wear black gowns, but for right now, I deserve to wear red. (GPOYW tomorrow)
